Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a real blessing.
Psalms 127:3 GNB
I celebrate God’s precious blessing of these two miracles! I took the first picture in 2007 after we got home from a wedding. Christian was 9 and Ollie was a few days from turning 3. It’s always been a favorite because it precisely captured their unique personalities, affinity for style, and playful spirits. This was their energy all day, every day – no matter if they were outside or inside. What appears to be just another candid moment was actually a glimpse of their growing giftings and passions.
Flash forward to now. The beautiful, multitalented Christian has spread her wings and twirled right along into her adulthood journey. Ollie, who’s outgrown us all, is about to graduate high school and looking forward to all God has prepared for him.
Their transitions spring forth a new season of motherhood for me. Although the parental duties and level of involvement change with time, God keeps reminding me that motherhood is a lifelong calling and heart commitment of unconditional love. I started praying for our children before they were born and continue to do so. There’s only so much we can do for them as earthly parents though. Only God, the Creator and Giver of life, truly knows their hearts, needs, and desires. I admit watching them grow can be bittersweet at times. Yet, I’ve learned their maturity causes me to evolve too. I find peace in trusting God to cultivate their lives according to His design and will, not mine. I rest and rejoice in knowing their purpose and destiny are in His hands!
Love you Christian & Ollie! I smile today thinking of you. Thanks for all of the sweet memories and many more to come!
And to anyone who has experienced the loss of your mother like me or maybe a child, I pray for you today as well. May God surround you with His comforting presence, great love, and peace that passes all understanding.
